First Look

I met her on a Sunday. I had just landed the previous night and spent the next 5 hours in a taxi to my hometown. I was jet lagged and had a serious headache but we had decided to meet on Sunday so there I was driving with my dad to her place.

I was all too concerned about how I looked, I had prepared for this but everything seemed wrong at that moment. When you are meeting someone for the first time, you rethink every decision. Everything you planned seems wrong and you want to do it over. I had a white Polo shirt which I thought looked simple still elegant but now it just felt bland. My hair seemed too long and unruly. I should have gone for a haircut before getting on that flight. Well, it was too late by then.

An uneventful drive ended in front of a big house. Crossing long two car parking garage with a white car we entered the house and were offered seats in a bedroom with everyone sitting in a circle. And I had my game face on. After a little introductions about the family she came in. She was wearing a pink top with a blue jeans.

We had talked before that on phone, chatted on whatsapp and even video conferenced on skype once but nothing compared to seeing her in person. A million things went through my mind. There was so much to process. List item started checking off in my head.

See there was a list – a long list of what I wanted in my spouse. She should be beautiful, nice smile, takes things lightly, loves everyone, loves to dance, good sense of humor and capacity to handle my bad one. And the list goes on.  Half the list already checked off. Not bad for a first look.
